About this online IQ test

An IQ (intelligence quotient) test estimates reasoning ability compared with the general population. Classic tests such as the Wechsler scales and Raven's Progressive Matrices are given in person by psychologists. Online IQ tests like this one use the same kinds of puzzles to give you a fast, private estimate.

CheckIQ focuses on fluid intelligence: the ability to solve new problems, see patterns and think logically without relying on knowledge you learned at school. That is why the questions use shapes and numbers instead of words, and why the test is the same for adults and teenagers anywhere in the world.

Your score is calculated from the difficulty of the questions you answer correctly and then placed on the standard IQ scale (mean 100, standard deviation 15). Harder questions count for more. Every attempt is a new, randomly generated test. The quick 15-question test gives a rough estimate; the full 36-question test is more reliable.
